Governance and management structure
Our sustainability is rooted in our approach to shared prosperity within Bytes, which aims to deliver positive impact for customers, colleagues and communities across themes most relevant to our stakeholders and our purpose.
As one of our key value drivers, environmental criteria, includes the energy our operation takes in and the waste it discharges, the resources it needs, and the consequences for living beings as a result. Not least, it encompasses carbon emissions and climate change. As every other company, we use energy and resources and as a results affects, and is affected by, the environment.
We manage our environmental efforts through strategic oversight from our Board, leadership teams responsible for determining strategic objectives and targets and supporting business operations in identifying and implementing activities to achieve these targets. Data owners have been identified for each activity and metric to track and record progress. Relevant performance information is reported and any material matters are discussed, with actions identified, as necessary.

Carbon Reduction Targets - SBTi Validated
Overall Net-Zero Target:
• Bytes Technology Group Plc commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by FY2041.
Near-Term Targets:
• Bytes Technology Group plc commits to reduce absolute scope 1 GHG emissions 60% by FY2031 from a FY2021 base year.
• Bytes Technology Group plc also commits to maintain a 100% absolute reduction of scope 2 GHG emissions by FY2029 from a FY2021 base year.
• Bytes Technology Group plc further commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 50% by FY2031 from a FY2023 base year.
Long-Term Targets:
• Bytes Technology Group plc commits to reduce absolute scope 1 GHG emissions 90% by FY2041 from a FY2021 base year.
• Bytes Technology Group plc also commits to maintain a 100% absolute reduction of scope 2 GHG emissions through FY2041 from a FY2021 base year.
• Bytes Technology Group plc further commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% by FY2041 from a FY2023 base year.
Carbon Reduction Targets - Additional
Non-SBTi validated targets / Original near term targets:
• Our original Scope 1 reduction target is still in place but not applicable for SBTi validation due to its immediacy. Target is to Reduce Scope 1 emissions by 50% from a 2020/21 baseline by 2025/26.
• Our original Scope 2 target of reducing emissions by 50% by 2025/26 has been met through the purchase of renewable electricity - which has given us a 100% reduction.
Carbon Reporting Plan
In 2024, we have achieved 3 milestones that are strategically important to the business
1. Scope 3 emissions reported across all relevant categories to the business and baselined to 2022/23
2. Submitted our Carbon Reduction Targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
3. Investment in Blue Carbon Removal Credits for our Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
We are continuing to invest in 100% renewable electricity and green gas at our owned offices and offsetting our business emissions.
Our focus for FY25 is in developing a Net Zero Transition Plan aligned with our targets, as well as engaging employees through a carbon literacy and sustainability awareness programme.
Supply chain engagement
Bytes ensures its suppliers are treated fairly and promotes fair commercial arrangements that will ultimately benefit them and our customers. We encourage all suppliers that the products they supply are from ethical sources, and wherever possible are Fairtrade. We only work with responsible partners and suppliers who are regularly assessed and reviewed to ensure that they are competitive, ethical, socially responsible and have excellent quality and environmental practices.
